Why Should I Attend a Workshop?
Writing is often an isolated experience where it is just you and your thoughts. Attending writing workshops is a chance to increases your skill set, learn specific time-tested tips, tools and methods to become a better writer; help you get focus on exactly what you want to write about, plus give you the opportunity to engage with people, whom like yourself, have a desire to write.
What Makes this Workshop Different from the Others?
Once you attend a MJH Writing Workshop, you are considered a part of the MJH Writing Workshop Family, which gives you direct access to the instructor, Award Winning and National Bestselling Author Margaret Johnson-Hodge, long after the workshop is finished. She will always be there for you, whether it's to answer questions about your writings or giving you guidance on what steps you need to take next. She sees her students as more than just a 'name tag' and her deepest desire is for you to attain your writing dreams by getting your book into print. She's helped several people do just that (click here to see) and she looks forward to helping many more. She also offers fee-based additional services. They are: Manuscript Reviews, Print Book Formatting, Securing and Coordinating with Printing Companies and Book Cover Design.
What is the Workshop About?
Bearing Witness: A Journey Into You is a writing workshop designed for anyone who would like to write. Through a series of personalized, highly intuitive and sharply focused exercises, you will learn the ins and outs of crafting a story, how to get past writing blocks, tips on engaging the reader, and most importantly, how to get your story written.
Who is the Workshop for?
It’s for anyone who has a desire to write. Whether you’ve never written a single paragraph or have completed a first draft, the workshop is beneficial to anyone who wants to get their story ‘told’ (written.)
Does it Matter What I Want to Write About?
No. Doing a personal story? Would like to chronicle your family history? Want to create a crafty cookbook? Write a romance or a suspense thriller? This workshop is ideal because it deals with the craft of writing, which is applicable to all styles.
I’ve Already Started Writing Something. Is this Workshop a Good Fit for Me?
Absolutely! No matter your skill set or lack of, this workshop will elevate your abilities and provide you with bona fide tips, tools and methods that will provide better writing.
Is the Workshop Hard?
No, not at all. We believe fun and laughter is a wonderful way to engage people and so we use a lot of that. Writing can be a serious thing but we always bring in the fun! Don’t be surprised if the instructor breaks out in a song and dance!
I Want to Write But I’m a Little Intimidated by the Idea of Attending a Workshop.
We strive to provide a warm and receptive environment where there’s no ‘right’ or ‘wrong.’ Utilizing a basic component that we call the ‘KCC’—Kindness, Consideration and Care, we encourage, not discourage and offer positive support to everyone who attends.
I'm Kind of Shy About My Writing and Don't Do Well in Groups
We understand how private and personal writing can be, that's why we insist on a Small Group Setting, with a limited number of participants, ensuring that everyone gets a chance to participate and engage in the writing workshop process.

Museums reveal 'stories' through artifacts and images. Writing reveal stories through words. By combining the two elements within a workshop setting, participants are able to get a deeper understanding of how to create moving 'images' on paper, where the blank page becomes the 'canvas' and the words, the 'paint,' creating stories of which generations to come will enjoy long after the artist/author is gone.
