The Workshop Experience by BR Embry
After 21 years (as of Sept 2017) I finally published my first novel, "If You Love Me" on April 1, 2018! During those 21 years, I fell in love (and out) of love with my characters and story. I never thought that "If You Love Me" would ever be revealed beyond my computer (about 5 to be exact) and well over 100 revised copies! Then in February 2016, it happened!
While looking through my feed on Facebook, I came across a status by Margaret Johnson Hodge about tips on publishing your novel. I was instantly excited and then I was overcome by a wave of nausea. What if I attend this class and finally publish my book? The world would finally read my story!!?
In April 2016, I attended "The Book Is Written...Now What: The World of Publishing from A to Z"! I have been to many workshops in the past, but this one was very different.
Margaret provided the inside scoop, the good and the bad of self-publishing and traditional publishing. Her honesty and openness about her experiences and outcomes was not only an eye opener but a valuable learning lesson.
I left the workshop with a new-found confidence in publishing my novel and future ones as well. Margaret stayed in touch with me, designed my beautiful book cover and was that encouragement when I almost gave up on writing.
If you decide to attend the workshop. Please take notes, listen and ask questions. You will forever be grateful!
